Students will begin with the basics of hand sewing progressing through projects at their own pace. Many beginners will be ready to begin machine sewing at the end of their first semester. Some students will need to spend more or less time at the beginner level before moving on to machine sewing.
Intermediate $65, plus supplies:
Intermediate students will learn the ins and outs of their machine through a series of projects. The project instructions will be provided throught the class. Intermediate students must be competent with the with the beginner skills. Many students will stay at the Intermediate level for several semesters. Students at the Intermediate level may just be starting out with a machine, be able to do projects independently, be beginning the process of learning to follow patterns, or following patterns independently. All will progress at their own pace.
Advanced/Independent study $50, plus supplies:
Advanced students will be able to complete all the requirements of beginner and intermediate levels independently. They will be learning and experimenting with advanced pattern and sewing techniques. Students will work relatively independently and use the teacher as a resource person. Many of the tools required for the advanced techniques will be provided for use in the class. Students can then decide if they would like to purchase tools themselves.

Description: Theatre is a great way for kids to build confidence and community while having fun! This class is a full year class, the first semester will be filled with acting games, team building activities and important acting skills. We will also get to study what it takes to be part of crew and even how to help with sets, props, and costumes. The second semester we will dive deep into practicing for the play, which will be announced mid-fall semester. The play will be put on at the end of the spring semester. We will have two performances, one that will be open to the public! Please come join us as we explore drama!

Story of Science

Description: This fall we will walk through history and learn science along with ancient scientists. We’ll recreate famous science experiments, learn how ancient scientists used numbers in their exploration of the world and create several hands-on projects. We’ll explore measurement with shadows, tidal times, squaring the circle, Pythagoras, Platonic solids, Eratosthenes, Archimedes Claw and his density experiment, map making, Fibonacci numbers and where they are found in nature including pineapples and flowers.
This class is based on Joy Hakim’s Story of Science Aristotle Leads the Way and the corresponding student quest book by John Hopkins University.
Julie Lindemuth has four children and has homeschooled them throughout. The oldest two are now in college and the two at home are 16 and12. She brings her love of math and science to the classroom to share with students. She recieved a chemical engineering degree and then went on to medical school-specializing in internal medicine and pediatrics.

Description: Get ready for a fun hour of dance with Miss Melanie and her assistant Miss Lauren – 40 minutes of ballet and 20 minutes of tap including terms and movement, stretching and learn many short fun dances. We will learn the importance of following directions, waiting our turn, team work and encouraging our friends. We will also incorporate dance, shapes, colors, letters, numbers and more. Students will get to bring special items from home to use in class and I will also bring props for them to use as well. We will have a performance at the end of the semester in December that will include both ballet and tap.
Items needed for this class: We will use these for classes and for our final performance, I will also provide special props and costume pieces for the final performance.

Description: This class will learn how to build and program LEGO Mindstorm EV3 and NXT robots. The class will begin with basic building and students will work in small groups to build a robot from instructions that they will tweak over the course to meet their needs. They will learn to program the robot, including the use of sensors so the bot can respond to its environment. They will build missions out of LEGOs for the bot to solve.
This is a great introduction to robotics for students of all abilities.
This class will also be appropriate for intermediate and advanced students and we will work with kids at varying levels on increasingly complicated missions.

We will also be building a new picnic bench for the host’s playground as the last project for the semester.
